The apex of this Mont du Lac des Cygnes is located exactly at the border of a 56 km diameter impact cave formed back 300 million years ago named as the Charlevoix Crater. Extending beneath the Saint Lawrence River, the crater has a center where the 768m Mont des Eboulements lies.

This is an uplift shaped right after the collision of meteorite. More or less 90% of the total inhabitants of this Charlevoix have taken the crater as their residence. The names of the prevalent towns inside the crater are La Malbaie and Baie-St-Paul. It has a distance of 8.8 km.

For this Mont du Lac des Cygnes, the trailhead I located at the Grands-Jardins central tourist center which in on the route 381. To reach here, you have to drive around 1.5 to 2 hours via route 138 of the Northeast of Quebec City. The Baie-St-Paul town is a drive away less than a half an hour passing route 381 which is renowned to be a scenic drive. The key trial of 4.2 km to the Mont du Lac des Cygnes had been modified back in 2009.

Though the summit has a 500 m elevation gain, it is reachable to most of the people. For making the concluding step towards the summit easier for the navigator, it has a long series of stairs. This trial remains open round the year and is considered to be perfect snow-shoe hiking location. In the summer months, the visitors get a Via Ferrate which was installed in 2014. Along with a guide, groups of equal or less than 8 persons can visit together. Late September or the early October can be the perfect period for climbing. The elevation is of 3215 ft or 980 m.

The difficulty level may seem higher for you if you are a newbie in hiking because this hiking territory is renowned for the experienced hikers. Hiking enthusiasts will be pleased with Mont du Lac Des Cygnes. This trail is suitable for hiking and is of intermediate difficulty. It is a rich discovery trail with a panoramic view at the top. It starts at the central tourist center of the Parc des Grands-Jardins. You can access it through route 381. The service center is located 21 km from this road. The park entrance fee is $8.90.

To discover another emblematic place of the region, you can go on the trail of L'Acropole-des-Draveurs. Located a 45-minute drive from the Grands-Jardins National Park, this is a top destination for experienced hikers. The level of difficulty of this trail is high. It is therefore not suitable for novices. You should also allow 4 to 6 hours to reach the summit.
